PWHL scores US broadcast deal with Women’s Sports Network

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced a broadcast agreement with the Women’s Sports Network (WSN).

Contract:
  • WSN to provide extensive live game coverage of the PWHL throughout the regular and post-season
  • WSN becomes the PWHL’s first national media partner in the US
  • Deal comes after the PWHL and WSN ‘were connected’ by Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss, who sit on the league’s advisory board
Context:

The PWHL becomes the latest property to partner with WSN, following the likes of the LPGA, National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the World Surf League (WSL).

Founded in 2020, the WSN is a dedicated 24-hour streaming channel for women’s sport and is backed by Fast Studios.

Comment:

“The PWHL is young and vibrant, and our games feature world-class athletes with compelling stories to share. We know WSN will tell those stories exceptionally well,” said Amy Scheer, PWHL senior vice president of business operations.

“This partnership will connect PWHL games and content with the ever-growing audience on WSN’s platforms, creating a true destination for outstanding coverage of our sport and our league.”

Coming next:

The WSN began its coverage of the league by showing PWHL Boston’s clash with PWHL Toronto, which took place on 14th February.
